Day 7

Saturday 01 September 2012
Day 7 Birdsville

Another leisurely morning which turned into a warm day of 28°C.

After breakfast, a bit of bike maintenance, a look around the camp again, and preperations for tomorrows departure, it was time to get the vehicles ready for the afternoons adventure.

birdsville track Red Hills We drove south out of town onto the Birdsville Track to the Red Hills, about 45 km south of Birdsville.

This was an exciting time and a bit of an adrenaline rush for the drivers, or the owners if they lent their vehicles to a wantabe sand hill climb king.

A couple of us made it to the top, but some just could not do it.

Now not all of us ended at Red Hill.
Cookie 1 said he came to Birdsville to go to the races and that's what he did, the only one to attend both days races.

The Roulettes put on a spectacular air show display as this was the "big day".

And no, Cookie 1 is not in the crowd of this picture watching the Roulettes do their thing again, as he was attending "cup day" at the races.

We all arrived back late in the afternoon and went to town to have a meal and some of us went to Fred Brophy's Boxing Troupe tent again. Others just enjoyed the atmosphere throughout the evening in the town, checking out all the sites.

And as our camp site was almost directly in line with the airport runway, we had a great view of all the aircraft taking off, mostly the undersides thereof.
The helicopter did a roaring trade, several hours of ferrying people to and from the races, at $70 per trip, and a round trip of seven minutes !
