A Public Ignored - Foreshore and Seabed
With the 2011 General Election just around the corner, the Coastal Coalition
has compiled a report outlining the stance of the various political parties
on Crown ownership of the foreshore and seabed.
The report also provides
details of whether parties supported or opposed the Marine and Coastal
Area Bill to privatise the coast to iwi groups.
With the Maori Party
making campaign promises to lower the threshold for claims, this will
become a contentious issue during the next Parliament.
The Election Report - which is attached as a PDF document for your convenience - also provides details of our Citizens Initiated Referendum to restore Crown ownership of the foreshore and seabed. If you are concerned about the law change we would urge you to do what you can to help support the CIR - and please feel free to pass this Election Report on to others.
