Queenstown is known as the adventure
capital of the world and you are about to find out why!
Often described as the world's most stunning
and natural scenic playground, Queenstown has a long list
of activities heightened by the amazing environment. If
you seek an adrenalin rush, you've come to the right place,
with a choice of activities that will leave you gasping
for air... river surfing, white water rafting, jet-boating,
tandem paragliding skydiving and hang-gliding, scenic flights
to Milford and Doubtful Sounds, helicopter trips and much
more!
For those who prefer a more sedate pace
there is a lot to see and do. Lake cruises let you appreciate
the stunning surrounds at a gentle pace. If you prefer to
sit back and relax whilst you are exploring, a number of
tours will take you to some of the most inaccessible, unspoilt
back country regions, historic and gold mining sites, Lord
of the Rings film locations, wineries parks via Glenorchy.

QUEENSTOWN'S ADVENTURE HISTORY
Queenstown has always been something of
an adventure town with the discovery of gold in 1862 laying
it's foundation,- a canvas town was created within weeks
as droves of people arrived to seek their fortune. This
grew into a solid community of over 7000, which included
several hotels, a bank, post office, school and hospital.
Around the turn of the century the many
walking trail and tracks began to attract people forming
the beginnings of the tourism industry. It became a busy
summer town but ground to a standstill in winter, until
in the early 50s when a rope tow at Coronet Peak heralded
the start of Queenstown becoming a year round resort.
Queenstown's first real taste of adventure
tourism came in 1970 with the establishment of commercial
jet-boating. Quickly on it's heals was white water rafting.
But it was in 1988, when bungy jumping was invented here
in Queenstown that this area became firmly established a
tourist resort. As thousands flocked to experience this
new and unique activity, an environment was created for
a host of other activity operators, and the 'Worlds Adventure
Capital' was born.
