How to find that job in an Aussie
mine - continued ...
But the reality of it all was quite different.
That Aussie mining job was not
that easy to find, because expectations had risen, ambitions
had solidified, the mining Super Tax had appeared with agitation
and aggression, and the almighty resources of Australia,
particularly WA, had informed the world to take a good look
here for the job opportunities.
So, what we have set out to do here, is tell you how it
really is; to prepare you before the trip, set you up on
arrival, plan your CV and cover letters, organise your job
search and prepare you for that interview to set you on your
way.
We won’t mislead with exaggerations
on time frames or fabricated testimonials. And we won’t
ask you for money for outdated information and false promises
of a job that no one can get for you, but yourself.
It is not that easy to find that job. Yes,
they are there, with some saying we are on the edge of another
boom, but it takes preparation, money, time, organisation
and extreme perseverance.
So, we will give you an informed
and truthful assessment based on our experiences and the
way it is now, finding that Aussie mining job.
The reasons for this book are very
simple. We looked for help to find THAT Aussie mining
job and found a huge gap in the marketplace. Living
through the experience, we decided we knew enough to help
others to get started, find the right path, do the smartest
things and find that Aussie mining job.
Between us we’d had a fair
share of life’s experiences being in our 50s, having
run our own businesses and worked happily for others including
onsite work.
But nothing prepared us for what
we found when we got there.
Yes, we’d heard all the stories
from friends and friends of friends, and both of us had family
who were currently working in the mines. And we’d
bought the publications off the internet and got completely
sucked in. Two of these publications were not only
badly written, but were outdated and invalid in parts, and
sometimes a long, long way from the truth. We even
found cut & pastes from the internet that had no relevance
at all.
The misleading information was obviously hurting a lot of
our fellow job hunters.
In short, these internet publications
for sale were useless and we felt bad for those people (including
us) who were not being told the basics, let alone the truth,
about finding THAT job in an Aussie mine.
The most important omission from
them all was how hard it is for most of us to find that job. The
days of walking into a job paying double our wage (if they
were ever there) have gone, and while the market is heading
for another ‘boom’, perhaps bigger than the last,
employers are expecting much more of the worker in experience,
qualifications, rostering and sometimes even own accommodation.
